Dream (complete version)

Ok so this was like a mamoth story to do so I'm just glad it's done at the moment without looking at it critically. There are various things I want to improve such as the type 'gateway' - for which there's obviously a week left to do this!
For publsihing reasons I may cut the 3rd page as it doesn't really contribute to the overall narrative other than adding antisipation and atmosphere, this would also make it a nice even 10 pages instead of 11.
If you could let me know what you think that would be great, thanks!
P.S. chiu have a great hol and xmas!!!

"A Dinosaurs Conversation"

Well I finished it- and also managed to get it scanned, although that was a little trickier than I thought! It still needs a little bit of editing before it can become a poster (going to be A2 size- A3 is too condensed) I'm too wiped out to feel relieved yet! But its done! Now to make some more books from it! It's kind of hard to get an impression from it on the blogger, but let me know of any thoughts anyway!

(update: Underneath is the design for my A2 poster)

if you guys think the cover idea is a hunk of shit then i'd like to put this forward as the poster, although i'm not sure who'd put this up above their bed apart from me

ink soup 5 concept cover

basically i thought this would work well as the cover for the biblical issue of ink soup. above is the front and back cover, this is just a concept that i thought was interesting and would be a unique selling point, to view the full image you flip the issue over! also when at book fairs or whatever you can lay them out like this as an eye catching display and if they want the full image all the time they can buy two, effectively doubling the profits and making us all rich(ish).....
still need to finish the detail on the ark though.

And another page without text and divers. yet.

Text soon. Hiho.

more Crumb

Just an idea for the next comic

I did this because I was inspired seeing Joe Sacco's use of crosshatching in "Palestine" and wondered if i could match it. I am pleased with it but it was a little time consuming and I think I'll stick to this style but only cross hatch certain teaxtures, and colour the rest in photoshop.

Thought I'd use a set of pisstramps (people who hang around benches with bottles of cider) for characters in a new comic for ink soup, it still has no story and this picture is nothing to do with it.

new story

Ok these are the 1st 5 completed pages out of 10. There not in order or anythen so they wont make any sense. The story is basically a girl nods of to sleep and arrives in this dream world where she meets a servant of the devil who gives her a look in to her future. The dream world starts to deteriate and she wakes up back at home.
I've tried to experiment a bit more with the use of different sized panels and my camera angles to.
Influences for this were the new Terry Gilliam film 'The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus' and 'The Cell'. This is for the next C'est Bon Kultur deadline - dec 15th. Let me know what you think, thanks.

Ink Soup #5 Entry

Still to be titled but this will hopefully be the entry for the next ink soup.
I don't know why but this isn't working for me at the moment so I'm going to put it to bed for a week or so and then come back to it with fresh eyes. Let me know what you think anyway guys.

report on Comica Comiket held on the 8th of November 2009

This is our second attendance to Comica Comiket, and this time our ink soup issues were much better prepared to part company from our shores. Last year we only sold three issues, but this year we bid 14 issues farewell, hoping that their new owners would enjoy reading them.

We got to the venue really early, and it turned out to be a first come first serve rush for the best spot, or in our case, a free pick of whatever table we desire, as we were first there! We were lucky enough to get not only a table, but also a wall space for milan's mega poster, and extra space for the inksoups - although not a massive sell out, a lot of interest, and many raised eyebrows at the quality of work.

We also sat right next to the prestigious nobrow: http://www.nobrow.net/news/, but I must have been so overwhelmed that I forgot to take pictures of them and their work.

Still, here are some pictures from our table and others:

Puppet Girl

Hey :-) This is the first page of a 4 page story I'm doing. Sorry for the randomness, but here goes...the basic story plot is that a girl wishes to be a real puppet (bit of a play on Pinnochio wanting to be a real boy). A demon (or something...?) comes to her and grants her wish / makes a deal with her. Excited to get her wish she accepts and is transformed. But then her dream crashes down when she realizes that she loses her freedom as the demon controls her instead (puppets have to be moved by someone operating their strings). So bit of a "be careful what you wish for" story.

This character was just a doodle I produced a few months back. I recently found it and decided to attach a simple story to it.

I really like this more open style layout - inspired by the work of David Mack I displayed in an earlier post. What do we think....? :-\

Observer 2009 Winners!

I had a conversation today about understanding & working to market demands - The Observer, rightly so, panders to middle class readers who enjoy a light and sensitive Sunday read, after a lovely Sunday stroll in the park, after a delightful Sunday meal - and how should I know, because that's the kind of aesthetic that I would indulge in myself, if I had the time for Sundays

BTW, I think paint is beautifully coloured

Still uncomplete!

Really appreciated the advice last time so feel free to tell me whats right or wrong.

this is the first page of a story I've based on sample from a song, but i can't find who wrote it originally. not sure if this counts as plagiarism if i use the lyrics in the novel. these are the lyrics to go with the illustrations any way :

A change of heart, a change of plan must surely be the way. Get off the
ground - you're heaven-bound! And if you like it when you're there you'll be
allowed to stay.
"This is the way it has to be", the wisemen wisely said. So we believed, but
some did not. And though we never knew, the wisemen, wisely had them shot.

Comix Competition
YOU+ME=US

The competition’s theme this year is You+Me=Us.- Between You and Me there‘s a difference, but a lot of things connect Us, both of Us live here. Especially in a globalised world cultural diversity needs to be perceived as an opportunity. This can only be achieved if as many people as possible from different parts of the world develop an understanding for each other and foreign cultures.
