Toastie-O Pages

This is my Observer contribution, page 2 out of 4, more will be uploaded soon as I completely finish! It's a ridiculous but what I hope entertaining story, I tried to progress with the colours and drawings from where I left off on the bald cypress/BMI entry. Looking at it now I think I'll re-do the title again as it wasn't really that considered, but please let me know what you think, cheers.

It's finished- going to get it printed and posted tomorrow, so if you see this in the morning and have particular gripes please let me know!

Wow this is absolutely amazing!! I love the colours! That off white is great.
I know you said you didn't want to do children's books but I think that this sort of story could work really well. It doesn't all have to be cute/beautiful - you remind me a bit of captain underpants or horrible histories! Even Roahl Dahls stories could be pretty gruesome and he's massively popular with older kids.

Also have you been looking at those punk comics from the seventies?

Can't wait to see the rest of it. I'm struggling with mine at the moment ... not sure I want to do graphic novel stuff at all anymore, rather get on with picture books!

See u back at uni,
kt. :)

Can i just ask how you did the colours? Did you have a method for selecting the pallate or just make it up as u went along? Because I'm trying to do some digital colour as we speak and everything's clashing and its not going very well ..

ahha this comic makes me laugh :) i really like reading this. i want more too!. this is a major improvement i reckon from your last ink soup submission. your style and sense of humour really go well with this storyline.

lol murray this is great stuff!!!
I think your colour palet works so well - particularly for your subject matter.

i think if you continued approaching your work in this way it'll improve no - end.

Thanks very much for the positive feedback everyone!

Chiu- Haven't looked at feininger before, but love his work. Especially the style of his drawings! So thanks for that- I think my next coloured comic will hopefully be in the direction of as bespoke as his! tangent: bought my cheltenham ticket!

Kt- thanks very much! How i do the colours is for every panel I duplicate the same layer and make it linear burn, then I add the colours on and make that layer 60% which mutes the colours but the line is kept the same. I can show you when we get back if it'll be any use? i think the significant thing I do is the yellow tint which ties all the panels together, I put a top layer on with the colour I want to cover it, make it linear burn and take it down to 30%. Palettes a hard one, I like muted colours, but the hard part is working out the beginning, but once you get colours you like you can start re-using them throughout the story so it gets easier? I hope any of that helps, lol probably be easier in person!

Cherry- thanks and congratulations on the neo publishing, i'm still in shock, that is so damn cool! and fair point on this being an improvement, think I was kidding myself on the last one, just glad this one is more popular!

Ed- Cheers dude, it's a still surprise for me that I'm working in colour, although going to have to improve on my black and white stuff, as this comic in black and white isn't half as effective so won't really suit ink soup 4- shame!

i just wanna mention to reconsider the mention of 'marmite' i dunu what goes on with brand names being mentioned in comics. but hanna had to change some of her brand name mentions in her book due to copywrite n such. not really sure tho. sounds nit picky n such, but since your sending this off to the observer, itd be crap for something as minor as that to ruin ur chances. :)

Thanks cherry, I had thought about it but thought it would be ok- but looked into it and the word marmite is in fact copy righted, so have tried to change it where it's still appropriate but obvious I mean marmite, hopefully marmitron is a dead give away!? Posting the whole thing now! :D
