Since Charlie Hadn't Come

This is the work I've been doing for Tindal street press, based on a short story by Chris Smith about a dementia suffering farmer who without his brothers care descends to the level of an animal.

Lemme know what you all think!

24 hour project

I've been looking at some of the 24 hour projects and this one by Noémie Marsily, another textless narrative, strikes me with it's energetic use of colour:

Cookie Love

This short film is just a bit of fun. Thought it was time for some human interaction and lightheartedness.

Shot references for this came from the dining scenes in 'American Beauty'. Shots from the western 'Tombstone' also came into play for the expression and emotions of the characters.

Experimentation

I was looking back at work that I'd done from studying Thomas Ott and thought there was still lots of room for exploration such as:

using lines to draw an image, which I'd previously touched upon with both the 'viruses' and 'crash & burn' ink soup's with biro and white pencil crayon.

I thought it would be interesting to see what sort of result I got with ink pen and if the lines made would add or take anything away from the tonal quality and depth of an image.

The Forest

I was recently inspired to make this film after seeing the trailer for Tim Burton's re-imagining of 'Alice In Wonderland'. Quite alot of the shots have been taken directly from the trailer - the idea being that I could create the same sort of atmosphere and fantasy.

I had also been dragged to see 'The Time Traveller's Wife' which featured quite alot of (running) shots through a forest which furthered my understanding of how to approach making this.

Specific camera angles & movement from 'Gladiator' also came in handy for this too! Like most of the films so far there are various things I would want to change or approach differently but I'm quite happy with this one and feel I am learning something - and having alot of fun!!!

Drawings

Decided to work on my figurative drawing skills to help improve my angles and start to build up a library of reference material.

sketches

Heya all, been taking a step back with some observational drawing and experiments this summer. I am trying out some new materials for my next comic panel - charchol and pencil/pencil crayons. Trying to get a mix of detail and strong tonal contrasts. Here's some sketches I tried out:

And here's some illegible plans for compositions/panels which I'm going to change around for the new observer (ps. did you here they are thinking of shutting down the observer altogether?) :

if that is of interest to anyone! Btw, I am up for going to Bologna for the festival. Hope u r all having a nice break :)

experimenting

just an experiment. i need to practise my narrative skills more.
:) i think i need to create more characters and storys other then getting caught up on one. i have a bad habbit of focusing on the drawing so much that i forget other important stuff. like the story! D8...and backgrounds.
