The Circus

Have just finished what I think is my final submission of work for the 'Viruses' brief. The idea is basically a sort of revelation as to how the future could be and that we as humas are the virus of the planet and it is our sins that make this so. I've got plently of time to make alterations so if you feel any changes need to be made feel free to give me some feedback!!! Thanks. ed

Standby Wednesday & Thursday!

Hi people!

I need people ready with their pages this Wednesday - I need them ready with 300 dpi A4 size images, ready to make alterations if need be, so keep PSD files with layers!!!

I need Murray ready for the print production

I need Debbie for the cover and content, and back page designs

I will do modifications on Photoshop and layout on Indesign

I need proof reading for spelling/grammer mistakes - and those people who have errors need to be available to change their work! - Jess can you do it?

If anyone wants copies to sell, then coff up the cost money up front, approx a pound a copy - I will print 50 again to sell myself

Can't think anything else!? Anyone??

Milan's entry!

Milan's Entry:

I loved this, so sorry Milan, I had to post it up. Very clever play with panels and symbolism, great build up of a stereotype, only to be pleasantly surprised by final take on the meaning of virus - beautifully drawn, very atmospheric!

I'm slightly worried about type size and legibility, but show me a photocopied slightly smaller than A4 copy and we'll see!

The Box, page 1 of 4

Working through drafts of my new strip for the new ink soup, this is the first page of the 4 which i hope to a high degree is finished, i'm going for an anarchic style. Looking forward to working on the new edition next week with all the new strips, should be even better than the last one :D

another page

Here's a link to a second short story I made to accompany the whiskey one:
http://littleplaceforme.blogspot.com/2009/01/chick-invasion.html

So if u want that for a double page, I can work on those two. I realise they are square not A4 ... >:(
Was thinking of adding an extra 3 panels in each one, or an "end" panel.
kt.
ps. Chiu, if u want I can email them to u in grayscale.

second page for the virus issue

visiting talker

Out of interest, if we brought someone up for a talk on graphic short stories/novels, who would you like to hear/see and why?

Ink Soup contents page!

I had an idea for an interesting solution to the contents/contributers page this time around (seeing as the last one was a bit rushed). If it's still virus themed- how about all the contributers invent a virus, do a little illustration of a microscopic image of it with their name, maybe think up a couple of symptoms. So it went like:

Virus comic...

Lemme know what you think...I have another one thats half finished that could abstractly fit into the theme...but this was the best idea I could come up with based around viruses >.>

To avoid disappointment

I have nearly two and half pages finished, and look at the work everyday to improve it - it's not really finished until the day before final layout, so I am willing to modify and constantly re-do parts (I don't believe in getting sick of this stage).

To avoid disappointment, don't leave it until the last minute, and expect to work on it if it needs improving (if suddenly you can't be arsed then maybe you should'nt from the beginning. Ink Soup is about producing works of quality, more in the area of visual language rather than in writing, though it would be nice as well.

I am available to look at submissions from next week onwards, please use this time to seek me, and ask for opinions.

I am looking forward to quality works!

best,
chiu

new GSS layout

Here's a link to my revised layout of the graphic short story if anyone's interested -

http://littleplaceforme.blogspot.com/2009/01/graphic-story-layout-revision.html
I thought it looked really crushed in the Observer double page format, so I've edited it into a sort of book layout, just to experiment.
Prototype only! The text needs work.
Needless to say after 10 weeks, I'm totally sick of it and hate it! and can't wait to get cracking with Children's Book!

What time and where is everyone meeting next week?
:) Kt.

My attempt at Fumetto

I found the "virus" theme quite hard to come up with a concept for- I ended up settling on the idea of a virus that was more social and not a traditional disease. One day I'll do a story that doesn't have a depressing ending, honest.

Peurs du Noir

I discovered this whilst trawling in the backlog of the Drawn blog...it looks really amazing, a film about what lurks in the dark made of many animated shorts from the likes of Charles Burns and Lorenzo Mattoti (amongst others)...I have a copy now (though its in french) and if anyone wants it when we're back I can bring it in on my memory stick for them....I've not had the chance to watch it yet, partly because things with subtitles often require more concentration than my brain can manage >.>...

Brussels Comics

Another country that takes it's comics/graphic novels or rather Bande Dessine very seriously is Belgium:

I may very well go off to Brussels on a day trip! Cheaper and simpler than Angouleme!
